Melbourne is getting a new prison. Last month, the Victorian state government announced that Ravenhall, a medium-security prison with the capacity for 1000 male prisoners and a 75-bed specialist forensic mental health unit, would begin construction in 2015 by the GEO Consortium. Located near Deer Park, the prison will sit near the Metropolitan Remand Centre and the Dame Phyllis Frost Centre, a maximum-security women’s prison.
