The Federal  Government’s announcement of new funding for arts training is welcome. But it can’t paper over the bigger problems confronting the sector, writes Ben Eltham.

The latest plank of the Rudd government’s Creative Australia policy was launched a fortnight ago, in Bendigo.

As announceables go, this one was not a biggie: $3.4 million over four years to help funding arts traineeships nationally. Federal Minister for the Arts Tony Burke, no doubt busy with his onerous responsibilities in the Immigration portfolio, left it to Parliamentary Secretary Michael Danby to make the speech.
