No place for women choreographers

The Australian Ballet recently launched their 2016 ‘Power to Transform’ season, but there was nothing transformative for female choreographers.

In the whole 2016 season Alice Topp is the only woman commissioned and she is featured only as part of Symphony In C, programmed only in Sydney.

Upon launching the season, Artistic Director, David McAllister said, ‘This is a richly dynamic and diverse season.’ Diversity may be present in the choice of ballets buts it is not present when it comes to the gender of the choreographers. The picture at Queensland Ballet and the West Australian Ballet is no brighter for female choreographers.
