City of Albany - Vancouver Arts

TECHNICAL OFFICER – ARTS & CULTURE

Join our team in a Technical Assistant role at the Albany Town Hall, with a strong emphasis on lighting operation and production support

Opportunity:

The City of Albany is seeking motivated and technically skilled individuals to join its Arts and Culture team in a Technical Assistant role at the Albany Town Hall, with a strong emphasis on lighting operation and production support. This position offers an exciting opportunity to be part of delivering high-quality events, performances, and community programs in one of Albany’s key cultural venues, where lighting plays a central role in creating engaging and dynamic audience experiences.

The successful applicant will assist in the operation, maintenance, and development of the Town Hall’s lighting systems, including stage lighting setup, rigging, focusing, cueing, and programming, alongside supporting sound and video systems. The role also includes contributing to the planning and delivery of arts and cultural projects, providing technical lighting advice and support to clients and artists, and participating in broader community arts initiatives. This position is ideal for someone with a passion for theatrical lighting, live production, and the performing arts, who enjoys working as part of a creative and collaborative team and contributing to impactful community cultural experiences.

 About You:

We are seeking a skilled, detail-oriented individual with strong experience in stage lighting systems and live lighting operation. The ideal candidate will be confident using lighting consoles and managing rigging, focusing, patching, cueing, and troubleshooting to support the delivery of lighting designs for live performances and events.

You will have strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively within a creative team and work with artists, clients, and stakeholders to achieve high-quality lighting outcomes. A solid understanding of theatrical lighting principles and visual storytelling through light is essential, along with strong organisational and problem-solving skills.

You will be adaptable, safety-conscious, and committed to delivering high-quality lighting results in a live performance environment. Experience in theatre production and technical services is essential, along with relevant tickets and licences, or willingness to obtain them.
