Head of Operations

AANT Centre is seeking a skilled Head of Operations to take our venue and event delivery to the next level.

About the Role

The Head of Operations forms an integral part of AANT Centre’s Leadership Team. This role oversees all operational activities at the Centre (AANT Centre) and the George Brown Darwin Botanic Gardens Amphitheatre. Key departments and functions led by this position are Technical, Box Office, Front of House, Food & Beverage as well as safety, facilities and maintenance requirements.

This role also plays an important role in collaborating with the Chief Executive Officer to feed into the organisations strategic vision and to generate delivery pathways that enable the Centre to be a commercially viable and artistically vibrant venue.

About the Centre

AANT Centre is a Not-for-Profit Company Limited by Guarantee. Located in Darwin, it is known as Darwin’s premier live entertainment venue. Performances range from local school and small productions to international touring entertainment performances.

AANT Centre also manages the George Brown Darwin Botanical Gardens Amphitheatre on behalf of the City of Darwin. This involves liaising with promoters, stakeholders and safely delivering performances at the venue.

Key Accountabilities of the Role

Advocacy

  • Promote AANT Centre and the Amphitheatre as the preferred venues for hire to local businesses, conference and business event organisers, and interstate / international promoters.
  • Promote the AANT Centre’s internal ticketing services and box office as the preferred ticketing company to hirers, local businesses, local events, conference organisers, and international / interstate promoters.

Team Leadership

  • Contribute to a positive workplace culture that supports all Centre staff as well as venue users, artists and audiences.
  • Manage, train and mentor the Front of House, Technical and Box Office departments to ensure smooth, efficient, and courteous delivery of all operational activities.
  • Ensure induction processes and procedures are in place and delivered by relevant teams to hirers, their crew, performers and associates to enable safe use of the Centre’s facilities.
  • Oversee the delivery of venue staff rostering system and support the Technical, Front of House and Box Office departments to ensure rosters achieve optimum efficiencies for the venue and satisfaction for the Hirer within the agreed timeframes.
  • Ensure appropriate workforce planning for operational areas and drive recruitment of the Core and Casual staff to ensure proper coverage for peak periods.
  • Oversee the planning and coordination of bump in and out activities, and the coordination of interactions where required for multiple concurrent events.
  • Oversee prudent bar sales and stock management.

Venue & Systems Management

  • Manage the AANT Centre and Amphitheatre facilities and their maintenance requirements.
  • Oversee AANT Centre’s Workplace Health & Safety compliance, Event Risk Assessments, Emergency Management Plans and relevant training, policies and procedures across the business.
  • Display financial acumen by responsibly managing a departmental budget, contributing to the Hirer Estimate / Settlement process and prudently managing staffing requirements.
  • Attend high-risk events to ensure a safe and well-managed event in line with the Centre’s policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as required.

 

Selection Criteria

  • Minimum of seven (7) years’ experience in venue, operations and event management
  • Experience managing safety, risk, compliance, policies and procedures for events
  • Proficiency with Office 365 suite, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point
  • Experience in executing live performances
  • Demonstrated commercial acumen and financial management
  • Excellent communication skills
  • A strong network of local and national operational department connections
  • Experience managing a high-performing team to achieve shared goals and outcomes
  • Experience using event management, project management, finance or booking systems
  • Box Office, Technical, Front of House and/or Food & Beverage management experience
