More about Spring in the Park

The desire to process and understand the world around us is a relatable quest. Who decides what stories get told? How do we remember them? How do you render experience and what transforms it along the way? Translations sees Gasworks Short-Term Studio Program’s current and alumni resident artists Romy Durrant, Caitlin E. Littlewood, Indya Pearce and Samuel Woodman explore these themes.

Pearce’s practice examines ancient mythologies and archetypes, exploring the contrasts and echoes to contemporary issues. Littlewood similarly delves into the collective consciousness, currently focusing on the house as both a physical and psychological space. Both Durrant and Woodman use abstraction as their method of distillation. Durrant transforms the sensory into intuitive mark-making. Woodman methodically recontextualises our world into diagrammatic landscapes.

In Translations, the artists find meeting points at the intersections where one thing moves into another.
