Sydney Fringe Festival returns this September with more than 350 events across 64 venues, bringing together theatre, comedy, cabaret, music, dance, circus, visual art and more. As NSW’s largest independent arts festival, Sydney Fringe puts the spotlight on the artists, ideas and venues shaping Sydney’s creative culture, from established artists developing new work to emerging voices making their mark.
Across the city, audiences can discover bold new work, international Fringe favourites and distinctly Sydney stories, with a network of Festival Hubs offering different ways into the program.
Made in Sydney at PACT
Made in Sydney at PACT Centre for Emerging Artists celebrates the best of independent theatre from Sydney and beyond, bringing together ambitious new work from artists across Sydney, Canberra and Wollongong. Running from 2–26 September, the program showcases the breadth, experimentation and talent of the independent theatre sector.
Off Broadway at Eternity Playhouse
Darlinghurst’s iconic Eternity Playhouse becomes the home of the Off Broadway Hub from 2–26 September, presenting bold and innovative work across theatre, music, contemporary dance and cabaret. It’s a chance to experience boundary-pushing artists and ambitious performances in one of Sydney’s much-loved independent theatre spaces.
Touring Hub at New Theatre
From 16–26 September, New Theatre hosts the Touring Hub, bringing a selection of boundary-pushing shows from the national Fringe circuit to Sydney. Expect adventurous, acclaimed work that has travelled from Fringe festivals around the world, alongside some of the most distinctive voices on the contemporary performance scene.
Emerging Artist Share House
A long-standingFringe favourite, the Emerging Artist Share House at Erskineville Town Hall is a celebration of the next generation of independent artists, with more than 40 shows packed into the program. It’s the place to discover artists at the beginning of their careers, take a chance on something unexpected and see where Sydney’s creative future is heading.
Queer Hub at Qtopia Sydney
Returning to Qtopia Sydney, the Queer Hub brings together a month-long program of LGBTQIA+ storytelling, performance and celebration. With 20 performances across the season, the Hub showcases queer artists and stories through theatre, comedy, cabaret and more, from camp and outrageous to intimate and deeply personal.
Festival Hub at Marrickville Town Hall
The Festival Hub at Marrickville Town Hall brings Fringe’s artist community together with a free program of talks, panels, masterclasses and workshops designed to support independent artists. Running throughout September, the program covers everything from movement and theatre-making to practical industry advice, including touring pathways and grant writing, creating space for artists to learn, connect and build their careers.
Fringe on The Rocks
Fringe on The Rocks transforms the historic laneways of The Rocks into a playground for independent performance, creating a platform for mid-career artists to reach new audiences and present ambitious work in an unexpected setting. From intimate cabaret and live music to immersive performance, visual art and experimental spectacle, it’s a place for artists to take creative risks while inviting audiences to discover something new. The program runs from 2 September to 11 October.
Fool’s Paradise at The Entertainment Quarter
Our Festival Garden Fool’s Paradise brings two buzzing tents filled with spectacular circus, burlesque and more to The Entertainment Quarter. It’s also home to our Fringe Kids program running 26 September to 11 October. Expect big, bold entertainment from some of the country’s most exciting circus artists, including Return of the Godz, a thrilling reimagining of Greek mythology through acrobatics and spectacle hot enough to make Zeus blush.
