Emily Ebbs
30 July – 20 August
Opening: Thursday 30 July, 5–8pm
Art Leven, 104 Cathedral Street, Woolloomooloo NSW 2011
Emily Ebbs is a Sydney-based visual artist working on Gadigal land. Her practice explores stain as both material and metaphor, evoking the emotional residue of memory.
Combining traditional painting with organic materials gathered from her surroundings, Ebbs embeds traces of the landscape directly into her work, positioning it as a quiet collaborator rather than subject. Central to her process is the collection and boiling of organic matter, used in place of water to mix paint—an intensive method that carries both physical and conceptual significance.
This ritualised process engages the senses, with natural aromas fostering presence and embodied awareness. Working on large unstretched canvases on the floor, Ebbs approaches painting intuitively, using gestures of staining and layering to connect internal and external worlds.
Each work becomes both an intimate portrait and an act of embodied remembering.
Please join us for a wine at the opening on Thursday 30th July. We look forward to seeing you.
