At a time marked by ecological crisis, global conflict, social isolation, and the instability of late-stage capitalism, Collective Mothering proposes that matrilineal and maternal models of care offer vital, alternative ways of imagining continuity, resilience, and collective wellbeing. Together, the artists explore care not as a private responsibility, but as a shared cultural and social practice.

Featuring Kate Baker, Emily Bowman, Adele Carter, Hannah Cooke, Briony Galligan, Charlotte Ghaie, Genevieve Grieves, Victoria Jost, Abbra Kotlarczyk, Judy Malibirr, Mandy Nicholson, Nikki McKenzie, Evonne Munuyngu, Emma Michaelis, Pauline Rotsaert, Samantha Taylor, Lisa Waup, Ranch Pressing, and Dr Amber Smith (c)

Collective Mothering runs from 01 August to 04 October, with special activities aligning with the school holidays and Geelong Design Week. Offering mostly free, intergenerational events, Collective Mothering invites audiences to consider how cultures of care might help shape more connected, equitable, and life-affirming communities.
