Join artists Remy Faint and Tom Polo in conversation as they discuss Faint’s exhibition ‘A Site of Unfolding’ at UNSW Galleries.

‘A Site of Unfolding’ presents an ambitious new body of work developed through an ongoing dialogue with family histories and archival encounters. Spanning painting, sculpture, and installation, the exhibition brings historical objects into conversation with new works, allowing contemporary acts of making to unfold alongside inherited material histories.

Working across expanded approaches to painting, Faint and Polo discuss abstraction, gesture, and embodied acts of making, reflecting on how personal histories are translated through visual form.

This program is part of ‘Artist to Artist’, an ongoing series of conversations at UNSW Galleries, bringing together practitioners with shared interests and material concerns.

Remy Faint is a contemporary artist working across painting, sculpture, and installation. His practice traverses global histories and languages of painterly abstraction, drawing on collection-based objects and materials connected to his Chinese heritage to investigate the imaginative possibilities of inherited histories. Through processes of assemblage and collage, Faint’s visual language moves between wall-based painting and expanded sculptural forms. His large-scale installations respond to architectural settings as active frames for how cultural identity is displayed, obscured, or made legible.

Tom Polo uses painting to explore how conversation, gesture, and exchange are embodied acts of portraiture. Working between abstraction and figuration, his paintings blur boundaries between the self and others, to mask and unveil the complexities of our inner worlds. Drawing upon acute observation, social encounters, and personal histories, Polo’s practice records the emotional and performative relationships between people within social, theatrical, and psychological space.

Presented in conjunction with ‘Remy Faint: A Site of Unfolding‘ at UNSW Galleries from 3 September – 22 November 2026.
