The ACO is thrilled to present the New York-based quartet who are already on their way to cult status, regularly collaborating with leading contemporary composers. They have a rich artistic partnership with Caroline Shaw, and in this concert will perform her contemplative masterpiece Three Essays, and her popular The Evergreen, inspired by a single moss-covered tree and the complexity that lies beneath. Among other favourite string quartet repertoire, the quartet will play Beethoven’s monumental String Quartet in A Minor. Composed in the aftermath of his world-changing ninth symphony – and featuring the extraordinary Hymn of Thanksgiving written after the composer recovered from a life-threatening illness– this is a work of artistic bravery and spiritual transcendence.
This is your chance to hear the hottest sound in strings today, in the intimate surrounds of the Nielson.
