The Board and Management of Yirra Yaakin Theatre Company have announced the appointment of Eva Grace Mullaley as the Company’s new Artistic Director.

Mullaley, a Widi woman from the Yamatji Nation in the Midwest region of Western Australia, is taking over the reins from long-standing AD Kyle J Morrison, who finishes up with the company on 29 March.

‘I am incredibly honoured to be selected for the position of Artistic Director of Yirra Yaakin Theatre Company. Yirra Yaakin has, for years, been my cornerstone of theatrical integrity and community engagement and I look forward to continuing such an inspirational legacy and building on the shoulders of those that came before me to lead Yirra Yaakin in to a new era. Exciting times,’ Mullaley said in a statement.

Eva Grace Mullaley has a long history with the Company and is a graduate of the Aboriginal Theatre course at WAAPA in 2003. Her first role with Yirra Yaakin was as an assistant with David Milroy on the production of Windmill Baby. Her 15-plus years in the industry have seen Mullaley take on the roles of director, associate artist, administration, stage manager, tour manager, producer, event manager, actor, dramaturge, lecturer and workshop collaborator. She has also been a member of the Board and part of the Next Training Program before heading off to Tasmania and Melbourne, where she immersed herself in all-things theatre.

Clem Rodney, the Chair of Yirra Yaakin, is thrilled with her appointment and looking forward to the next exciting phase of the Company’s 25-plus year journey with Eva steering the artistic vision of the Company.

Mullaley commences in the role on 8 April 2019, as she returns to Western Australia.
