Why we need sensitivity, generosity and kindness in the arts

The arts sector can sometimes feel cut-throat, with qualities such as vulnerability, sensitivity and kindness coming a poor second to competitiveness. Artists, writers, musicians and arts publicists share how being good and kind can be wearing, but worth it.

Being kind and generous are important qualities in any industry and often rewarding – either through internal satisfaction or external recognition. Yet such qualities also require sensitivity in order to flourish – a quality that is often cast negatively: “You’re too sensitive”.
