At what cost? Another closure

Sydney’s Damien Minton Gallery will close in July; the next in a chain of galleries struggling in a dwindling market.

‘We simply ran out of money,’ said Minton with brutal honesty in a statement yesterday that announced his gallery of 13 years was closing at the end of the financial year. The gallery opened in November 2001 before moving to Redfern in 2005.

Minton is respected for his fresh approach and his sincerity in bringing the experience of art to a broader audience; in particular he is known for his introductory speeches to each exhibition.
