Bestselling authors Kate Mosse and Philip Ardagh will join library campaigners in protesting the closure of libraries across England. The protest follows new research from Unison which found that since April of last year, more than 100 UK libraries have either closed, are run by volunteers, or have been turned into social enterprises.
An event organized by Speak Up for Libraries on Tuesday saw the protest move from a local to a national level, with campaigners protesting at the Houses of Parliament in Westminster. The aim of the protesters wass to make the government “recognize the crisis hitting [libraries] and to take urgent action” (The Guardian).
