Opera Australia postpones Phantom of the Opera until 2022

Advance ticket sales of $20M could not save the blockbuster musical from the real phantom stalking our arts centres: COVID-19.

Opera Australia has been forced to cancel the Sydney and Melbourne seasons of The Phantom of the Opera due to the ongoing disruption caused by COVID-19.

Over 100,000 tickets had already been sold.

Melbourne actor Josh Piterman was to star in the new Australian production as the masked madman who stalks the Paris Opera House, and whose obsession with young soprano Christine Daaé drives the plot of the award-winning musical.
