In August, the issue of Australia’s colonial past hit boiling point when a statue of Captain Cook in Sydney’s Hyde Park was defaced. ‘Change the date’ and ‘no pride in genocide’ were spray-painted across the monument. Statues of Governor Macquarie and Queen Victoria were also graffiitied.
