Lane Cove council invites Expressiosn of Interest (EOI) from artists, designers and creatives with Chinese cultural heritage, or a connection to communities that celebrate the lunisolar new year- including those with connections to China, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, and countries with a Chinese dispora (for example Signapore, Indonesia and Malaysia) – to develop a public artwork that integrates the zodiac animal of the Sheep (or Goat) for St Leonards Lunar Laneways, a vibrant twilight street party celebrating Lunar New Year.
Like the 2026 edition, the 2027 artwork will transform underutilised laneways into immersive culturally rich community spaces.
This commission is an excellent opportunity for a talented local artist with installation skills to bring together a range of community-made artworks across the ST Leonards community, rig them into bamboo baskets and hang them as part of the Lunar New Year event, with the artworks intended ot be used across multipe editions of this annual event series.
