Curatorial Rational: 3rd Nature at the intersection of Nature and Technology

Most often viewed as opposing poles, this commission is interested in exploring the interdependence of nature and technology. The term 3rd nature has emerged to describe this relation. The ‘first nature’ of the natural world has been so interspersed by technology ‘second nature’ that only their hybridisation remains possible. Organic Vegetables growing under LED lights in a green house, critically endangered whales with GPS tracking for conservation. Environmental repair increasingly relies on technology and new technological inventions continue to be inspired by natural systems. The commission welcomes video artworks that consider the relation of nature and technology.
