Creative West is a landmark cultural precinct project revitalising Footscray with a new library, performing arts centre and town park.
This major commission should demonstrate artistic innovation and structural integrity and enhance the unique identity and diversity of Footscray, reflecting its creative spirit. The light-based sculpture should be organic in form, creating a sense of movement and a sensory, optimistic gateway into the Creative West site.
The Creative West site is within Wurundjeri Country, at the meeting of volcanic plains and the tidal margins of Mareingalk / Maribyrnong River where salt and fresh water converged to form an ever-changing estuary. Drawing on this inspiration, Artists are encouraged to explore the theme of meetings, intersections and ever-changing convergence in their designs.
