The International Youth Silent Film Festival (IYSFF) started in Portland, Oregon in 2010. Three years on it has reached Australia, or two states of Australia at least. The venues qualify for the very good reason that they have theatre organs, which are the key to the festival. It works like this. Filmmakers who are 20 or under on April 15 make a film based on the organ music composed by Nathan Avakian for one of six themes: slapstick, action, horror, mystery, romance or sci-fi.
