Young Creatives is just one part of the extensive Learn program at the Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA) in Sydney that provides for everyone who would like to engage in art. That means schools and teachers, kids and families, adults, artists and creators, community groups, visitors with specific needs … and young creatives, who get a program all to themselves.

It starts with the leadership program that is pitched to 13 – 17 year olds who apply for positions on the MCA Youth Committee by December of the preceding year. The committee works with MCA’s Young Creatives Coordinator to develop events, workshops and other activities, particularly the generationext program, a free festival-style event that happens six times a year for anyone aged 12–18. It’s not all give being on the MCA Youth Committee, there’s a bit of take as well with occasional opportunities for professional and personal development, access to mentoring by artists and MCA staff and discounts at the MCA.
