The Song Company are embarking on a national tour for their 2012 concert season, and are set to launch their first ever subscription season in Melbourne.

Artistic Director Roland Peelman has led The Song Company to be one of Australia’s most impressive vocal ensembles, and featuring a repertoire of music that goes as far back as the 10th century.

The first concert hitting Melbourne is Love in Venice, featuring a collection of music from Claudio Monteverdi and Adriano Banchieri.

“For the first time in history, composers expressed how it feels to fall in love, how to fake it and how to get over it”, Roland Peelman said. “Monteverdi’s madrigals are brimming with passion and sensuality. Their emotional impact is as palpable and overwhelming now as they were then. Similarly, Banchieri had a knack for bouncy catchy tunes, that make you smile, whether you want to or not!”

In August, The Song Company will perform its second concert, a water themed program featuring acclaimed percussionist Claire Edwardes. This concert, titled Sunken Dreams, promises to be a spectacular mix of percussion and water, even featuring a selection of Claude Debussy’s famous work.

The final concert, Ship to Shore, is playing in Melbourne on November 14th and features guitar duo Slava and Leonard Grigoryan performing a mix of music with one common theme – the sea.

The Song Company delights audiences in over 130 performances a year, both in Australia and internationally. The company is made up of seven members, and is a not-for-profit initiative which has produced many recordings and broadcasts over the years.
