Next Wave Artistic Director finishes on a high

The Melbourne-based organisation's 2014 festival has been a critical and financial success.

After four successful years as Artistic Director and co-CEO of Next Wave Festival, Emily Sexton has announced she will step down from the role on Friday 1 August, 2014. She leaves behind a legacy of audience growth, increased funding and a $1.45m turnover, as well as introducing a brand new Festival model and nurturing and supporting new artists both nationally and internationally.

Richard Watts OAM is ArtsHub's National Performing Arts Editor; he also presents the weekly program SmartArts on Three Triple R FM. Richard is a life member of the Melbourne Queer Film Festival, a Melbourne Fringe Festival Living Legend, and was awarded the Sidney Myer Performing Arts Awards' Facilitator's Prize in 2020. In 2021 he received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Green Room Awards Association. Most recently, Richard received a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in June 2024.
