Cellar door: MONA’s brewery

A close neighbour to Tasmania’s Museum of Old and New Art is Moo Brew, MONA’s very own winery, and a must stop for any lingering museum visitors.

What better drink to accompany a trip to MONA for its new and innovative exhibition “Theatre of the World”, than a fine wine or expertly crafted beer?

The MONA winery bar produces five distinct beers under its fittingly named Moo Brew label. Whether you fancy an American Pale Ale, a Belgian Pale Ale, an American Dark Ale, a German-style cloudy wheat beer or a Pilsner, MONA promises to deliver.

Built just up the hill from the museum, the MONA winery bar also boasts some of the best views in Australia. Visitors returning from a trip to the new exhibition, and fancying a relaxing drink, are certainly able to find one at Moo Brew. And the brewery won’t forget where you’ve just come from either, delivering somewhat of an artistic flair through its unique bottle design which features exclusive artwork by Australian artist John Kelly.

Aside from its five permanent beer taps, there are an additional seven taps constantly rotating, so you never know if you’re going to be lucky enough to try a homegrown Australian beer or a Chimay. Excellent wines are also available, with special wine tours and tastings available from Wednesday to Monday. A Moo Brew tour and tasting is also on offer from 4PM on Fridays and Saturdays

But the best part of the MONA winery bar is that this is only the beginning. A recently opened 35 hectolitre brewery just a few kilometres from the Estate will allow the brewery to produce an even wider range of exclusively released beer under the MONA label, expanding the Moo Brew name to an all new territory.
