Touring is a core business of the performing arts and a key factor in the provision of arts in regional areas. Regional Arts Australia estimates 90% of performing arts seen in regional Australia is toured from outside the regions.

But when it comes to venues, investment goes to bricks-and-mortar performing arts centres in large cities or regional capitals. The shows tour only as a far as the theatres built to display them.
