SA Premier defends his arts record

Steven Marshall was campaigning on his arts record when he spoke recently with the Arts Industry Council of South Australia.

‘It’s been a real privilege to, not only be the Premier of South Australia, but also to take on the important arts portfolio. I did this because I genuinely think that the arts are in our DNA in South Australia. They’re part of who we are. And they are a major point of differentiation for our state over other states of Australia, other parts of the world.

‘I’m very proud that when we came to government, we said we need an arts and culture strategy for South Australia. In fact, I don’t think we had one in the state since Diana Laidlaw was Minister, I don’t know when that was, 20 years? So we’re very proud to be able to fund the development of the art and culture plan, a five year plan [which] was released in 2019.
