In June this year, the Australia Council released its latest research report: Towards Equity: A research overview of diversity in Australia’s arts and cultural sector. It was the first comprehensive study of its kind that looked at the enormous collective charter of equity – including First Nations, CALD, disability, geography, age and gender equity.
ArtsHub did a quick survey of arts organisations in Australia to gauge if any were operating under an Equity Action Plan (EAP). We found that few (if any) organisations had a plan in place when it came to gender policy. The only organisation currently writing such a plan was the National Gallery of Australia (NGA), which is currently writing a gender equity plan, a 15-month journey to date.
