Within the arts industry, you often have the luxury of leaving the suit or corporate dress at home when you embark on job interviews. But in many ways, this can make the decision regarding what to wear all the more difficult. Rather than scaring your artistic employer away with your overly formal attire, it is probably best to wear a more casual outfit that exemplifies your unique style – after all, artists are expected to be artistic.

Choose something that you feel comfortable in. That doesn’t mean you should turn up in your oldest t-shirt and baggiest tracksuit pants. After all, I guarantee you won’t feel comfortable in them for long once you notice the furtive glances your employer is throwing your way. And make sure you wear clothing that closely represents what you would normally wear, because you don’t want to have to rush out and buy a whole new wardrobe once you find out you’ve got the job.
