What Melbourne’s lockdown means for the arts sector

Another blow for Victorian arts organisations as a 7-day snap lockdown closes doors again, just as events were returning.

The Victorian Government has announced a snap lockdown for Melbourne CBD, and extending to Greater Melbourne and the Bendigo, in an attempt to curb the recent outbreak of the highly contagious Indian variant of the Coronavirus, which overnight escalated the new cluster to around 26 active cases, with 12 acquired locally in the last 24-hours.

Acting Victorian Premier James Merlino said in a press conference that the ‘strain is running faster than anything they have ever experienced’, adding that this was their ‘prime concern’.
