Transport & Installation Specialist

Michael Reid is looking for a skilled professional to safely transport, install, and present artworks while delivering exceptional client service.

Michael Reid Gallery—one of Australia’s leading contemporary art organisations with four galleries across New South Wales—is seeking a Transport & Installation Specialist to support the smooth operation of our gallery network. This role is the key logistics link connecting our galleries, artists, suppliers, and clients, ensuring artworks are moved, installed, and presented with care and professionalism.

You’ll be responsible for transporting artworks between locations, supporting exhibition preparation, managing inventory, and delivering high-quality installations in both gallery spaces and client homes. The role also includes maintaining gallery presentation to our established standards.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

Logistics & Art Handling

• Ensure the safe and appropriate handling of all artworks at all times.
• Manage and execute the reliable and safe transportation of artworks in our dedicated Art Shuttle Vehicle between all gallery locations, suppliers, and artists.
• Accurately manage and organize inventory stock, maintaining records of artworks in transit and storage.
• Manage the preparation of sold artworks for dispatch, including wrapping, packing, boxing, and labeling.

Installation & Client Service

• Perform the professional installation of artworks in both the galleries and client homes, ensuring a high standard of presentation.
• Serve as a professional representative of the Michael Reid brand, providing client liaison, support, and promotion of the brand and our artists during deliveries and installations.

Gallery Maintenance

• Perform regular maintenance of gallery walls/plinths, including sanding, filling, and painting, to prepare spaces for new exhibitions.

Required Skills & Attributes

• Exceptional Driving & Logistics Skills: Proven ability to manage reliable and safe transportation of delicate goods, with a strong enjoyment and proficiency in driving and navigation across multiple locations.
• Meticulous Art Handling: Demonstrate commitment to the safe, careful, and appropriate handling of highly valuable artworks.
• Installation Expertise: Competence with tools for precise and secure art installation (measuring, drilling, and hanging) in various settings.
• Superior Client Service: A professional, personable, and discrete approach to client liaising, with a strong ability to build rapport and promote the brand during client home visits.
• Physical Stamina: Capacity to handle, lift, and move artworks of various sizes, as well as perform general gallery maintenance tasks.
• Team Communication: A consistent ability to maintain regular communication and work cooperatively with all team members.

Location: Primarily based in Chippendale, NSW, requiring travel across the Michael Reid gallery network – including Murrurundi, Southern Highlands, and Northern Beaches – and client residences across Sydney.
