Strut & Fret

Technical Manager

The Grand Electric seeks a Technical Manager with ETC lighting, audio and QLab 5 skills to join its creative Sydney team. Full-time role.

ABOUT THE GRAND ELECTRIC

The Grand Electric is a busy live entertainment venue in Sydney, presenting a diverse program of theatre, cabaret, circus and live performance.

We’re part of the Strut & Fret family, creating and presenting live entertainment experiences for audiences across Australia and internationally.

Our team is passionate about live performance, creativity and the people who make it all happen.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We’re looking for a Technical Manager to join our team at The Grand Electric in Sydney.

This is a hands-on role for someone who loves live entertainment, enjoys working with great people and has the technical skills to keep a busy performance venue running.

You’ll oversee the day-to-day technical operations of the venue, operate performances and work closely with our production and creative teams.

We’re particularly interested in someone who enjoys lighting programming and wants the opportunity to contribute creatively to the work on our stage.

This isn’t just a maintenance and operations role. There’s plenty of opportunity to get involved in the creative side of production, develop lighting looks and contribute to the ongoing technical development of the venue.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage the day-to-day technical operations of The Grand Electric.
  • Operate lighting and audio for live performances.
  • Program, operate and maintain lighting using ETC control systems.
  • Operate and program QLab 5 for show playback.
  • Support technical rehearsals, production changeovers and new shows.
  • Work with creative teams to develop and refine lighting programming.
  • Maintain technical equipment and ensure systems are performance-ready.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues and support smooth show operations.
  • Work closely with performers, stage management, production teams and venue staff.
  • Maintain a safe, professional and positive working environment.

SELECTION CRITERIA

We’re looking for someone with strong technical skills and an equally strong approach to working with people.

The following skills and experience are essential:

  • Strong ETC lighting console programming and operation experience.
  • Experience operating live audio for theatrical performances.
  • Intermediate or higher QLab 5 programming and operation skills.
  • Experience working in live theatre, cabaret, circus or entertainment venues.
  • Confidence troubleshooting technical systems.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills.
  • A positive attitude and a collaborative approach to working with others.
  • The ability to take initiative, solve problems and work independently when required.

Experience managing a venue, supervising technical staff or leading a technical team would be highly regarded.

Most importantly, we’re looking for someone who is great to work with, takes pride in their work and genuinely enjoys being part of a team.

WORKING ARRANGEMENTS

This is a full-time position supporting the ongoing technical operations of The Grand Electric.

During regular performance seasons, the role generally follows a five-day working week, Wednesday to Sunday.

Outside regular performance periods, or during production changeovers, technical rehearsals and installations, the role may require availability across six days per week.

Flexibility is important, as working hours and days will vary depending on the venue’s production schedule.

Start Date: In October 2026, or as soon as possible.

WHY JOIN US?

You’ll be joining a great team that values creativity, collaboration and the people who make live entertainment happen.

We offer:

  • A full-time position in an established live entertainment venue.
  • A varied role combining technical management, lighting programming and live show operation.
  • Genuine opportunities to contribute creatively through lighting programming and show development.
  • The opportunity to work alongside experienced production and creative teams.
  • A collaborative workplace where your ideas, experience and contribution are valued.
  • The chance to take ownership of the technical operations of a busy performance venue.

We’re looking for someone who wants to become part of the team and contribute to the ongoing success of The Grand Electric.
