About the role:

Working closely with the Strong Business Program Manager, you will coordinate and deliver Desart’s Strong Business Program, which supports Aboriginal Art and Culture Centres to run strong, healthy and sustainable businesses. You will spend time on Country with Art Centres across the Desart membership, mapping professional development needs and tailoring support that helps managers, studio coordinators and art workers create the conditions for high-quality artwork and strong businesses.

Key focuses include:

·       Art Centre support through regular visits, mentoring and practical advice.

·       Designing and coordinating delivery of professional development opportunities and resources.

·       Coordinating flagship events including the Desart Art Centre Conference and supporting the Desert Mob Exhibition.

·       Gathering stories and content from Art Centres for Desart’s publications and digital platforms.

·       Representing Desart on sector  forums and committees.

This is a dynamic, people-focused role with a strong outreach and travel component (2–7 days at a time to Art Centres on remote and unsealed roads).

About you:

You are energised by working alongside Aboriginal artists, Art Centres and communities, and you’re ready to travel, listen and problem-solve.

Essentially, you bring:

·       Experience in an Aboriginal Art and Culture Centre (management and/or studio/field roles) and/or qualifications in Arts  Management and/or Visual Arts.

·       The ability and willingness to travel regularly to remote Art Centres for 2–7 days at a time, including on unsealed roads.

·       Highly developed interpersonal, written and oral communication skills, with strong cultural competency and the ability to work in intercultural, multi-disciplinary environments.

·       Confidence in reviewing and synthesising information to shape effective professional development strategies.

·       Sound skills with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).

·       A flexible, organised working style: you take direction, set priorities, adapt quickly and respond constructively to  challenenges with a strong sense of personal responsibility.

·       A current driver’s licence, with willingness to complete 4WD and First Aid training (provided by Desart).

You might also have:

·       An understanding of the national arts sector and key stakeholders, particularly in Aboriginal arts.

·       Knowledge of governance, business and HR issues affecting Aboriginal Art Centres.

·       Experience with basic 4WD maintenance in remote settings.
