About the role

As we continue deliver a strong program in 2026 following our redevelopment, Adelaide Festival Centre is looking for technical theatre professionals to join its Sound Department. 

Reporting to the Head of Department – Sound, these positions are responsible for provision and operation of equipment and system support for performances in our venues.

Some aspects of the role include live operating of FOH and Monitors, Radio and IEM technology, spectrum management, BOH communications and basic AV.

Responsibilities, depending on classification level, may include:

  • Deliver technical services to Adelaide Festival Centre performances and events through high quality live sound operating, sound design and studio engineering
  • Oversee all aspects of Sound bump ins and outs, rehearsals of productions and events
  • Coordinate, oversee and/or operate equipment required for rehearsals and performances
  • Maintain, repair, test and install all associated Sound department equipment
  • Provide administrative assistance to the Head of Department – Sound including but not limited to preparing quotes, chargesheets, checklist, sound plots and stage plans
  • Lead and manage Sound crew ensuring the compliance of all Adelaide Festival Centre policies and procedures around employee entitlements and WHS and Risk
  • Liaise, interpret, advise and guide all stakeholder/client requirements for a production
  • In collaboration with the Head of Department – Sound, be part of a team, mentor, educate, train, guide and develop crew in all aspects of live sound performances and good theatre practices
  • Ensure and follow safe work practices
  • Maintain sound foundation knowledge of all venues and sound areas within the Adelaide Festival Centre

Competencies and skills, depending on classification level, may include:

  • Comprehensive skills and experience in sound engineering of live entertainment and events with a preference for theatrical industry knowledge
  • Excellent knowledge and experience of programming a range of digital consoles, e.g. Yamaha Avid Digico
  • Demonstrated knowledge of designing and configuring line array systems of leading professional brands
  • Knowledge and experience of BOH and FOH communications, intercom systems and fiber-based media networks for video, audio, and data signals
  • Knowledge and experience of Q lab and audio editing software – Reaper and Protools
  • Knowledge and experience of acoustic test & measurement software platforms Smaart.
  • Knowledge and experience of networking practices for live events including Audio over IP implementation desirable
  • Basic Knowledge of AV equipment
  • Exceptional organisational skills with the ability to effectively prioritise work and multi-task
  • Relevant and recent industry education, tickets and licenses
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively engage and work with a range of stakeholders internally and externally to the organisation
  • High level written, verbal and electronic communication skills, coupled with high attention to detail
  • A commitment to the delivery of excellent customer service
