Senior Exhibitions Producer

State Library Victoria is seeking an exceptional Exhibitions Producer to develop and deliver exhibitions in our galleries and spaces.

State Library Victoria, Australia’s oldest public library and one of the first free public libraries in the world, is seeking a Senior Exhibitions Producer to develop and deliver exceptional exhibitions in our permanent and temporary exhibition galleries and spaces.

Our Exhibition Production Team is looking for an additional Senior Exhibitions Producer to contribute to the development and delivery of State Library Victoria’s exhibition projects and works. The position works closely with the wider team as well as the curatorial and collections teams, design and technical specialists. The Exhibition Production Team sits within the larger Exhibitions team at State Library Victoria, and leads end-to-end production, project management and successful delivery of the Library’s forward program, annually comprising major exhibitions and other audience-focused exhibits, commissions and displays.

The Senior Exhibitions Producer works with a multidisciplinary project team and is responsible for the development, production, installation, commissioning, completion, handover and reporting of exhibitions and works, in consultation with projects sponsors and internal and external stakeholders. The role is also responsible for optimising delivery of exhibitions, testing and prototyping, to promote continuous improvement of experiences and material. The role keeps project contributors informed to coordinate, deliver and maintain highest-quality exhibitions and activities within project timeframes and budgets.

The role is accountable for the following measurable outcomes:

  • Overseeing end-to-end delivery of exhibitions within budget and according to detailed schedules for installation, maintenance and deinstallation
  • Applying best-practice exhibition project-management within risk management planning, procurement and contract frameworks
  • Leading a multidisciplinary project team in consultation with project sponsors and stakeholders to appeal to and attract audiences
  • Developing and delivering high quality exhibitions in line with programming strategy and benchmarks
  • Ensuring compliance with OHS and risk management policies and procedures, legislation and regulations
  • Optimising the development and delivery of exhibitions, as well as enabling integrated planning for marketing and programming, and preparing project status updates and reporting as needed
  • Prototyping and testing experiences, to inform audience and materials evaluation
  • Undertaking broader project team support of other major long-term exhibitions or productions
  • Keeping abreast of developments in exhibition presentation, establishing and maintaining peer networks within the industry

About you

The ideal candidate will be able to contribute to a culture of collaboration, curiosity, and engagement in developing exhibitions with a wide range of creative and technical collaborators. You will have high-level professional knowledge of all facets of exhibition coordination, development and delivery.

In addition, you will bring:

  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field (such as project management) or equivalent professional experience
  • Demonstrated experience leading the development and delivery of different styles of exhibitions, multimedia projects, public art projects or other major visitor experiences, preferably in an arts and collecting organisation or visitor attraction environment
  • Demonstrated experience in end-to-end project management, including scoping, problem-solving and proactively managing timelines, budgets, resources, and contracting within a procurement framework
  • A demonstrated track record in compliance with OHS and risk management practices in projects, preferably within a construction or exhibition build environment
  • Experience in leading and managing a multidisciplinary team of staff and contractors, including fostering a supporting environment conducive to the delivery of successful outcomes
  • A record of successfully building and maintaining strong relationships with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders and community groups
