Casual | Regular and Systematic |Canberra

Inspire, educate and lead the next generation of performers with the Australian Girls Choir

Looking to add a few weekly hours of rewarding work in the Performing Arts that will fulfil your artistic side? Join our dynamic AGC team and share your passion for music with talented young singers aged 13–18.

 About the Australan Girls Choir

The Australian Girls Choir (AGC) is Australia’s leading children’s performing arts organisation, dedicated to empowering girls through music. We have more than 6,500 choristers training in six Australian cities. We’re looking for an energetic and talented individual to join our senior team, teaching the top of level of the choir, Performing Choir, in Canberra.

About the role

This role is ideal for an experienced choral tutor who is comfortable playing piano for rehearsals and enjoys working collaboratively with young singers (ages 13-18).

  • Co-teach and accompany our most senior choristers, developing their vocal, musicianship, and stage skills
  • Play piano to support learning during rehearsals (warm-ups, repertoire, note-learning)
  • Lead AGC ensembles at concerts, public engagements, rehearsal weekends, and our annual 5-day music school in April
  • Team teach with two experienced and inspiring music educators
  • Collaborate with a supportive team of professional musicians and educators

What we’re looking for:

  • Confident piano skills suitable for rehearsals. If you are an experienced choral tutor who plays piano confidently in a rehearsal setting but may not consider yourself a concert accompanist, we strongly encourage you to apply.
  • Strong background in choral conducting, performing arts and/or music education
  • Inspiring leadership style with the ability to motivate young performers
  • Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work within a team
  • A passion for girls’ education and the value of Performing Arts
  • Availability for weekly Thursday evening classes (school terms) plus some weekend rehearsals/events (approx. 8 per year)
  • Desired: music/teaching qualification
  • Required: Working with Children Check

Why join us? Many of our tutors balance AGC work with full-time roles. They tell us this role not only complements their own performance practice but also delivers a huge sense of personal fulfilment. At AGC, we work hard, support each other, and have a lot of fun along the way.

How to apply:

Submit a one-page cover letter and your resume in a single document to [email protected], addressed to our People and Culture Manager, Hayley Hawksford. Applications close Friday February 27 2026; however we will review and progress applications as they are received prior to the closing date.
