The Registrar works within the Curatorial & Collections dept ensuring the professional registration and care of the MAMA collection and loans
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensure the professional registration, documentation and care of the Murray Art Museum Albury collection.
- Ensure the professional movement, documentation and care of loaned artworks for exhibition delivery, including freight, handling, dispersal and space preparation in line with industry best practice principles.
- Work collaboratively with the Curatorial & Collections team on all aspects of exhibition management.
- Maintain an industry standard collection management system.
- Work collaboratively with MAMA Operations staff on facility management operations where they relate to the security, storage, and care of artworks and their traffic through the museum.
- Promote a cohesive and inclusive working environment by working collaboratively with staff, contractors and volunteers across the museum.
- Maintain an up to date and holistic understanding of the museum’s objectives through a proactive engagement with museum activities and programs.
- Monitor emerging trends and best practices within the arts sector relevant to museum registration and collection management.
- Perform other tasks or duties as directed by the Supervisor which are within the limits of the employee’s skill, competence and training.
- Observe requirements of the WHS Legislation, relevant to the job and adhere to AlburyCity Policies and Procedures regarding WHS.

EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS:
- Based on a 35 hour week, working a minimum of 28 hours per week, Monday to Friday with actual days and times to be negotiated with the supervisor.
- Additional hours up to 35 hours per week may be worked by agreement and paid at the ordinary rate of pay.
- This position may involve work outside normal working hours. Additional hours over the standard 35 hours will attract a time in lieu arrangement or payment of overtime rates as agreed in advance with your supervisor.
- This position requires you to wear a compulsory uniform as per AlburyCity’s Our People Dress Code Standards. Our People are required to present a smart and professional image to the public at all times including when in public and when working remotely.
- This position involves working in a predominantly indoor environment and using a computer is considered a core component of the role. There may be occasional visits to other work locations. The position requires an average level of aerobic and physical fitness to undertake occasional physical activities, including manual handling tasks as part of a normal working environment. A medical declaration will be required to be completed prior to commencement.
- This position requires evidence of a current Australian National Police Check.

- This position is located within the Murray Art Museum Albury MAMA with occasional visits to external sites/depots and AlburyCity Administration Building as required.
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
- Tertiary qualifications in Museum Studies, Conservation, or Fine Arts or related field or relevant, equivalent work experience
DESIRABLE CRITERIA:
- Class C (standard) Driver’s Licence
EXPERIENCE:
- Experience in Registration or Collection Management and/or Exhibition Management at a collecting institution, public gallery, independent or similar
SPECIALIST KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
- High level knowledge and understanding of:
- Current national and international collection management practices, contemporary international museum practices and visual culture
- Australian twentieth and twenty-first century art and culture
- Collection management systems
- Conservation of art objects
- Project Management
- Exhibition logistics, freight and art handling and WHS and risk considerations
