Writing NSW
Program Manager
Writing NSW is seeking a strategic and highly organised Program Manager to lead our year-round professional development program for writers.
Program Manager (0.8 FTE)
Writing NSW | Callan Park, Lilyfield
Writing NSW is the state’s leading provider of support for writers. We offer courses, workshops, writing groups, grants, prizes and a wide range of resources for writers at all stages of their careers. Based in beautiful Callan Park in Sydney’s Inner West, we are a small, collaborative, purpose-driven not-for-profit, working to strengthen the writing community across the state.
We are seeking a strategic and highly organised Program Manager to lead our year-round professional development program for writers. This role is primarily focused on developing and managing our program of over 80 online and in-person courses and workshops—the core offering that sustains the organisation and enables its broader work. These structured learning opportunities bring writers together to deepen their craft, develop skills and build creative networks. While there are occasional literary events, the role’s primary focus remains on courses and workshops.
Reporting to the CEO, you will shape the program strategy; work closely with tutors from contracting through to course completion; manage budgets and schedules; oversee program marketing; and support a small program team.
What We Offer
- Flexible, part-time hours (0.8 FTE)
- Hybrid working, with the option to work from home one day per week
- Additional paid leave during the end-of-year shutdown
- A generous time-in-lieu policy
- Free access to a number of Writing NSW courses and workshops
- A supportive, creative, mission-driven environment in beautiful parklands
Salary: Pro-rata of a full-time package of $85,000 including superannuation, depending on experience.
About the Role
- Lead the curation and delivery of Writing NSW’s professional development program
- Work with tutors to schedule, organise and deliver engaging courses and workshops
- Manage program budgets and actively drive program performance against financial targets
- Oversee program marketing, participant communications and community engagement and growth
- Ensure a high-quality experience for tutors and participants across all offerings
- Lead and support a small program team
About You
You’re a confident communicator who enjoys planning programs, coordinating multiple projects, and working closely with writers and tutors. You may have experience in arts programming, events, education, learning design, or project management—or a mix of these. You’re organised, collaborative, and comfortable working with budgets, timelines and competing priorities.
Experience running learning programs is welcome but not essential. What matters is your ability to think strategically about what writers want and need, translate that into high-quality offerings, and deliver them smoothly.

We recognise that people don’t always meet every criterion listed and value diverse experience and career paths. If this role interests you, we encourage you to apply.
