Melbourne Theatre Company is seeking a driven and empathetic People & Culture Business Partner to join the team and play a role in delivering a cohesive workplace, where we value Leadership; Equity and Inclusion; Creativity; and Connection.
Reporting to the Director of People & Culture, you will provide expert HR guidance and collaborate with a specific client base across the Company to design and implement strategies that empower teams and align with our creative and business objectives. With a focus on health and safety compliance, industrial relations and policy creation, you’ll lead initiatives that promote a culture of safety, employee engagement, access and inclusion, and leadership growth.
We’re seeking a confident and collaborative People & Culture professional with the ability to build trust and drive positive change across an organisation.
You’ll bring:
- Deep People & Culture expertise, including strong knowledge of HR best practices, industrial relations, policy and procedure development, and employee relations.
- Expertise in handling sensitive employee relations matters, including conflict resolution, addressing grievances, and fostering a positive, solutions-focused work environment.
- Proven ability to lead workplace health and safety initiatives, championing a culture of care, compliance, and wellbeing.
- Experience collaborating with departmental leaders to design and deliver initiatives that align with organisational values, vision, and strategic goals — including partnerships with the University of Melbourne and other key stakeholders.
- Strong leadership and coaching skills to support managers in building engaged, high-performing teams.
- Strategic thinking and a data-informed approach to workforce planning, performance, and development.
- Proficiency in using data and analytics to inform decision-making, track key HR metrics, and evaluate the effectiveness of People & Culture programs.
- High emotional intelligence with the ability to navigate sensitive issues, influence effectively, and adapt within a dynamic, creative environment.
- A calm composed approach to challenging situations, with demonstrated crisis management capability.
- A strong commitment to equity and inclusion, with a track record of supporting diverse and inclusive workplace practices.
- Expertise in developing comprehensive policy, procedure, and industrial relations documentation.
