OPPORTUNITY
Join Carriageworks for a 6-month role supporting a major capital works project at one of Australia’s leading contemporary arts venues.
We’re looking for a hands-on and organised Operations Assistant to support the Facilities Manager in maintaining a safe, efficient, and compliant venue during a significant capital works period. This is a unique opportunity to work behind the scenes at Carriageworks, ensuring smooth day-to-day operations while gaining valuable facilities and project experience
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Coordinate daily venue operations to maintain safety, access, and service quality.
- Supervise core services including cleaning, waste, security, and landscaping.
- Prioritise and track maintenance tasks, ensuring timely issue resolution.
- Maintain event-related schedules, checklists, and building service support.
- Liaise with internal departments and contractors to deliver operational needs.
- Conduct venue inspections and oversee post-event condition reporting.
- Procure supplies and equipment to support ongoing operations.
- Support WHS practices, audits, incident reporting, and compliance checks.
- Oversee service providers and ensure high standards and contract compliance.
- Promote sustainable practices in energy use and environmental impact.
- Coordinate small projects such as office moves and minor works.
- Actively engage with weekly precinct operations meetings across departments.

PREFERRED CRITERIA
- Experience in facilities or venue operations, ideally in arts or cultural spaces.
- Knowledge of building systems (e.g. HVAC, electrical, plumbing).
- Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively across teams.
- Familiarity with WHS, compliance, and emergency procedures.
- Competence in Microsoft Office and facilities software.
REQUIRED LICENCES (or willingness to obtain):
- First Aid
- White Card
- Forklift, Scissor Lift, and Boom Licences
- Working at Heights Competency
- Test and Tag Certification
