Based in Melbourne, Midsumma Festival Inc (Midsumma) is Australia’s premier LGBTQIA+ cultural organisation, for and by communities who live with shared experiences around diverse gender and sexuality (DGS).
Midsumma Festival works year-round to provide artists with support, to develop, create, present and promote their work with its primary activity being an annual multi-arts festival presented over three weeks (approx. 22 days) from Sunday 18 January – Sunday 8 February 2026.
Midsumma Festival brings a diverse mix of artists, performers, venues and audiences together under a single umbrella for a celebration and innovative presentation of queer arts and culture. The diverse festival program is made up of a wide range of events and activities including visual art, digital arts, theatre, spoken word, cabaret/variety, film, live music, parties, sport, social events and talks/public forums.

Job Summary
The Marketing and Communications Coordinator will join Midsumma on a fixed-term contract to support the delivery of marketing and communications for Midsumma Festival 2026 (Festival Dates: Sunday 18 January – Sunday 8 February 2026). This dynamic role plays a key part in implementing marketing campaigns, creating content, managing social media and digital communications, and supporting stakeholder engagement across all festival programs.
Reporting to the Head of Marketing, Communications and Fundraising – Deputy CEO, the Coordinator will work closely with internal teams including the Community Engagement Manager, Program Managers, Ticketing and Presenter Services Manager, Volunteers Coordinator, and Stalls and Vendor Coordinator to amplify Midsumma’s public presence and audience reach.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the implementation of Midsumma’s marketing and communications strategy.
- Coordinate and produce content across digital platforms, including the website, email campaigns, and social media.
- Support the planning and delivery of marketing campaigns for key programs and events.
- Ensure consistency of brand messaging, tone, and visual identity across all communications.
- Liaise with artists, partners, and stakeholders to support promotional efforts and information sharing.
- Contribute to public relations efforts including media lists, press releases, and story sourcing.
- Track performance analytics and assist with evaluation and reporting post-festival.
- Support the Marketing and Communications Manager with general administrative and coordination tasks as required.
Typical Tasks
- Coordinate the creation and scheduling of content across Midsumma’s website, social media, and email platforms.
- Draft and edit engaging copy for digital platforms, media releases, and promotional materials.
- Engage online communities by responding to enquiries and sharing timely updates.
- Monitor campaign effectiveness through analytics and contribute to evaluation reports.
- Provide on-the-ground support for media and communications at live events.
- Assist with design briefing and basic content design (e.g., Canva) in line with brand guidelines.

You will contribute to the marketing and communications delivery for major Midsumma events and initiatives, including:
- Regional Activation Program (Nov 2025 – Feb 2026)
- Program Launch – 24 November 2025
- Midsumma Carnival – 18 January 2026
- Midsumma Pride March – 1 February 2026
- Victoria’s Pride – February 2026
- Midsumma Presents program
You will also provide marketing support to open-access event producers in collaboration with the Ticketing and Presenter Services Manager.
Person Specification
Key Competencies and Experience:
- Demonstrated experience in marketing, communications, or digital content coordination.
- Strong writing and editing skills with attention to voice, audience, and purpose.
- Familiarity with social media and eDM scheduling tools (e.g., Meta Business Suite, Mailchimp, etc.).
- Experience working in fast-paced environments, ideally within festivals, arts, or community events.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and timelines with a high level of organisation.
- Understanding of, and empathy for, LGBTQIA+ and diverse communities.
- Collaborative, adaptable, and aligned with Midsumma’s mission and values.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends during peak periods.
