The Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts

WAAPA is one of the world’s leading performing arts academies, delivering a comprehensive range of performing arts across acting, dance, and music theatre as well as performance making, music and production & design.

This opportunity arises at a pivotal moment in 2026, as ECU opens a brand-new world-class city campus in Perth’s CBD. ‘ECU City’ includes purpose-built state of the art studios and theatre venues in the heart of the city.

WAAPA’s award-winning Acting program is seeking an experienced, inspirational movement teacher who is passionate about developing the skills and creativity of WAAPA’s acting students in studio-based practical classes and while working as movement director on internal and public performances. The Bachelor of Arts (Acting) program delivers rigorous, practical, skills-based actor-centered training. It simulates real-life industry experiences including fully staged productions to produce highly sought-after graduates who are prepared for a career in stage and screen both in Australia and internationally.

About the Opportunity

As Lecturer (Movement) you will design and deliver innovative movement training curriculum drawing on your expertise and experience. You will also work as movement director for internal and public performances with staff and visiting artists. You will select and coordinate guest artists and sessional teaching staff in conversation with the Course Coordinator of the BA Acting program.

You will work closely and collaboratively with the whole acting team including acting and voice teachers to deliver a coherent, effective, inclusive and forward-looking curriculum that is informed by current developments in industry and scholarship.

About you

The successful candidate will have a strong and rigorous core movement practice in approaches including but not limited to: yoga for actors, Laban, Feldenkrais or Alexander for actors, Lecoq-based training, Biomechanics or other actor-centered approaches to movement.

Whilst not essential the successful candidate would ideally have experience of ‘intimacy coordination’ for stage and screen or a desire to undertake training in this area.
