The Torch seeks a dynamic First Peoples Program Manager to lead powerful programs that use art to create change in the community justice space.

About The TorchThe Torch is a Victorian-based, First Nations-led arts organisation that supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people impacted by incarceration to reconnect with culture and create pathways to economic self-determination through art. Through its Statewide Indigenous Arts in Prisons and Community Program, The Torch works across prisons and community settings to support cultural connection, creative development and meaningful opportunities for artists. The organisation is also delivering its 2025–2029 Strategic Plan, with a focus on regional engagement, expanding artist opportunities and strengthening long-term sustainability.

About the roleThe Torch is seeking a First Peoples Program Manager to provide strategic, cultural and operational leadership across its First Peoples arts and prisons programs. Reporting to the CEO, this senior role leads a team of First Peoples Arts Mentors and a Cultural Researcher, supports strong and culturally grounded program delivery, and helps build partnerships across community, arts, justice and government. This is a highly relational role for someone who can lead with care, integrity and confidence in complex environments.

The role is permanent full-time, based in Carlton, and is classified under SCHADS award Level 6.

Selection criteriaThe ideal candidate will bring:

  • A strong understanding of the First Peoples arts sector and the role of arts in cultural expression, healing and community strengthening
  • Experience building and sustaining strong relationships with First Peoples communities and organisations
  • The ability to engage effectively with a wide range of stakeholders across government, arts and community sectors
  • Proven leadership experience, including managing, mentoring and supporting staff
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including reporting and public representation
  • The ability to manage complexity, resolve conflict respectfully and work in a solution-focused way
  • A creative, thoughtful and cultural approach to leadership and delivery of the Statewide Indigenous Arts in Prisons and Community Program.
