Executive Level 1 - Security Manager
The National Museum of Australia is looking for an experienced Security Manager to provide expert advice on all aspects of security.
Role purpose
The Security Manager (Security Adviser) is responsible for providing expert advice and support to the National Museum of Australia on all aspects of protective security, excluding cyber security. The Security Manager will play a key role in ensuring the museum’s people, information, and assets are protected from a range of threats, in line with the Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF).
Key accountabilities
Security Governance
- Develop, implement, and maintain the museum’s protective security risk management framework, including conducting risk assessments and implementing control strategies.
- Develop and maintain security policies, procedures, and guidelines in accordance with the PSPF.
- Provide authoritative advice and guidance to museum staff on all aspects of protective security.
- Establish and maintain a strong security awareness culture within the museum.
- Oversee security incident reporting, investigation, and response processes.
- Liaise with the precinct security group, relevant government agencies and industry bodies on security matters.
Personal Security
- Develop and implement personnel security procedures, including pre-employment screening, security clearances, and security awareness training.
- Oversee administration of the museum’s access control systems, ensuring that only authorised personnel have access to sensitive areas and information.
- Advise on and contribute to the development of insider threat mitigation strategies.
Physical Security
- Conduct regular security assessments of the museum’s facilities, identifying vulnerabilities and recommending appropriate security measures.
- Oversee the implementation and maintenance of physical security controls, including perimeter security, access control, CCTV, and alarm systems.
- Develop and implement security procedures for special events and exhibitions.
- Liaise with security contractors and service providers.
Information Security (excluding Cyber Security)
- Develop and implement procedures for the secure handling and storage of sensitive information, including classified documents.
- Oversee the museum’s information security program, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and policies.
- Provide guidance on the secure disposal of sensitive information.
Emergency Management
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of the museum’s emergency management plans, including evacuation procedures and business continuity plans.
- Provide advice and support during security incidents and emergencies.
Supervision and Leadership
- Supervise the Security Coordinator, providing guidance, support, and performance management.
Work, Health and Safety
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to Work Health and Safety (WH&S) by actively supporting a positive safety culture, following the Museum’s WHS policies and procedures, and complying with reasonable instructions to ensure alignment with the Work Health and Safety Act 2011.
