The Flying Fruit Fly Circus is looking for a Casual Duty Manager to help keep Circus Centre Melbourne safe, welcoming, and running smoothly.

Circus Centre Melbourne is a new creative circus hub in Melbourne on Wurundjeri Country, led by the Flying Fruit Fly Circus, Australia’s National Youth Circus and the country’s only full-time circus school for young people aged 8–19. This new venture is a home for world-class circus training and creative exploration, building opportunities for community engagement and industry growth.
We’re looking for a Casual Duty Manager to help keep Circus Centre Melbourne safe, welcoming, and running smoothly. You’ll be the go-to person during training sessions and events, keeping an eye on safety, supporting participants and artists, and making sure everything is in order.
Position: Duty Manager Location: Circus Centre Melbourne, 35 Johnston St, Collingwood VIC 3066 Hours: Casual hours. Shifts of a minimum length of 3 hours will be available in regular business hours are 8am–8:30pm Monday to Saturday. Extended hours may occur due to events and performance seasons. Pay Rate: $38 per/hr
What will you be doing, exactly?
No two days will look the same, in this role, you’ll:
- Be the friendly face on the floor – helping members, artists, and families feel welcome and supported.
- Monitor training sessions, ensuring everything is safe and equipment is being used correctly.
- Act as First Aid Officer and Chief Warden during sessions, ready to respond if something goes wrong.
- Complete daily opening and closing procedures and keep spaces clean and organised.
- Set up and pack down circus equipment, props, and rigging before and after sessions.
- Report maintenance issues and equipment faults promptly so the space stays in top condition.
- It’s an active, hands-on role with a mix of safety oversight, customer service, and practical problem-solving.
We’d love to hear from you if you have:
- Experience in circus, circus education, or a similar hands-on role like a supervisor, stage manager, venue manager, or training floor manager.
- A strong focus on safety and confidence making quick decisions.
- Great communication skills and a calm, professional presence.
- The ability to lift and move equipment safely and work in an active environment.
Bonus points if you have rigging knowledge, technical skills, or a First Aid qualification – but if you don’t tick every box, please apply anyway!
