Director of Marketing & Destination Experience

Where creativity meets commercial impact, shape every audience moment - driving growth, revenue, and unforgettable experiences at every touchpoint.

Melbourne Recital Centre is a place where music creates connection, where artists and audiences meet, and where each visit has the potential to resonate long after the performance ends. As Melbourne’s Arts Precinct undergoes a landmark transformation, one that for the first time knits together the great cultural institutions of this city into a single connected destination, we have a powerful opportunity to further strengthen our place as a venue for extraordinary music, and as a destination that people actively seek out and return to.

The Director of Marketing & Destination Experience plays a pivotal role in realising this vision. This position sits at the intersection of creativity and commerciality, responsible for growing audiences, driving revenue, and shaping how MRC is experienced at every touchpoint. From first digital engagement to the moment a visitor walks through our doors, and long after they leave, this role defines how we are seen, how we are felt, and how we become a regular and cherished part of  people’s lives.

Reporting to the CEO and working closely with the Senior Leadership Team, the Director of Marketing & Destination Experience leads MRC’s marketing, audience development, ticketing, visitor experience, communications and media strategy – with full accountability or growing attendance, revenue, and MRC’s profile as a destination.

The role is responsible for strengthening MRC’s financial sustainability and strategically growing audiences and revenue streams.

This role carries four interconnected mandates:

  • Drive revenue growth through marketing, ticket sales, and audience development across all MRC venues and touchpoints
  • Own the visitor experience – from a patron’s first digital encounter with MRC through to arrival, welcome, and the moment they decide to return
  • Build MRC’s public profile and media presence, ensuring MRC is visible, compelling, and sought-after
  • Lead MRC’s destination strategy – elevating MRC’s presence and appeal within the transforming Arts Precinct, increasing foot traffic and dwell time, and positioning MRC as a venue that turns first-timers into regulars.
