- A unique South Australian legacy, Carrick Hill is Australia’s most intact period mansion
- Set on a 100-acre estate 8km from the CBD that includes the house, collections and extensive gardens.
- Opportunity to lead the organisation in the development of a new 10-year Masterplan and growth
Carrick Hill is fortunate to be one of the few period homes in Australia to survive with its original contents almost completely intact and its grounds undiminished.
Built in the 1930s by Ursula and Edward Hayward and bequeathed to the people of South Australia in 1983, it has been managed since 1985 by the board of the Carrick Hill Trust, a statutory corporation which is part of the Department of the Premier and Cabinet.
Carrick Hill consists of a 100-acre estate 8km from the CBD in the Adelaide foothills that includes the original house, artwork collection, furnishing and contents, together with extensive gardens and the recently opened $7m visitor precinct that includes a function and event centre on the estate.
A new 10-year Masterplan is in development to plan the successful further expansion and ambitious growth of Carrick Hill to ensure its long-term sustainability, with the establishment of the national Australian Garden Museum and other ancillary projects.
The house and grounds are open to the public for 11 months of the year with around 150,000 people visiting for tours, exhibitions, workshops, events, school holiday programs and functions.
The Director is responsible for the strategy, leadership and management of the house museum, gardens and estate ensuring its success as a leading cultural institution and visitor attraction that is recognised nationally and internationally.
The Director will have significant leadership, management, strategic, fundraising and collaborative experience to create long-term organisational, entrepreneurial and financial strategies to align with state priorities and to ensure the long-term viability of the agency.
Our Director will lead and oversee the new 10-year Masterplan development that will serve as a blueprint for our plans to double visitation and significantly increase self-generated income.
