Varuna the National Writers' House seeks a Digital Marketing Coordinator to champion Australia's finest writers. Based in the Blue Mountains. 21hrs/wk
ABOUT VARUNA AND THIS ROLE
Varuna the National Writers’ House is the leading institution for literature development in Australia. Each year, over 200 writers participate in residencies and professional development programs at Varuna, and many hundreds more readers and writers participate in its workshop programs and literary events. The role of the Digital Marketing Coordinator is to support the promotion of all of Varuna’s programs, helping to empower the literary imagination at every stage of a writer’s career.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Reporting to the Marketing and Business Manager, with direction and oversight from the Creative Director, this role is responsible for applying the organisational brand across digital channels, and for marketing Varuna’s programs, including residencies, fellowships, workshops, courses and events. This is a 12-month contract, to coincide with the opening of Varuna’s new workshop and event space in July 2026.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS INCLUDE:
• Ability to generate creative content across digital channels, including excellent social media marketing skills, graphic design and video skills
• Proficiency with the required software for a digital marketing role, such as Adobe, Canva and Squarespace (or their equivalents), as well as social scheduling platforms, CRM and EDM platforms
• In-depth understanding of SEO and experience driving traffic to website and social media channels
• Strong copywriting skills, with a flair for language, the capacity to adhere to a style guide, and an interest in developing a unique voice for the organisation
• Excellent time management and ability to work to competing deadlines
• Strong interpersonal skills and willingness to work as part of a team
• A passion for literature and writing, and an understanding of Varuna’s existing and potential audience(s)
DESIRABLE SKILLS INCLUDE:
• Experience delivering arts programs and/or education
• Experience in audience development
• Tertiary qualification in Arts, Communications, Journalism, Marketing or Social Sciences
