Database Administrator

Analyse customer data, uncover insights, and help shape strategies that boost engagement, retention, and philanthropic support for SSO.

The Database Administrator (DBA), reporting to the Head of Lifecycle Marketing, plays a vital role in the marketing team by managing, maintaining, and optimising the Sydney Symphony Orchestra’s database systems. The Database Administrator is responsible for ensuring the integrity, accuracy, and accessibility of all audience and customer data, supporting marketing, fundraising, and engagement efforts. The Database Administrator will collaborate with the Head of Lifecycle Marketing, Senior Marketing Manager & Insights Analyst, and other team members to analyse customer data, generate insights, and assist to develop strategies that improve engagement, retention, and philanthropic support.

The Database Administrator will play an essential role in enhancing the operational efficiency of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra’s administrative and marketing efforts.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist the Lifecycle Marketing team and overall company efforts to analyse large and complex data sets, providing insights into customer trends and behaviours.

  • Assist to build an analytical framework that provides pre- and post-campaign insights into advertising effectiveness, media choices and customer outcomes

  • Assist to develop and create a suite of standard reports that assist each part of the organisation

  • Source data from external sources that will assist the company in product design and other business decisions

  • Assist in providing accurate data that will help in the development of customer insight projects and routines 

  • Assist in using the data that will help the development of market insights gained through formal and informal research techniques 

  • Provide assistance in ongoing CRM system improvements and integrations with third-party software and platforms

  • Ensure the cleanliness, accuracy, and integrity of the Orchestra’s database, including customer, donor, and ticketing information.

  • Perform regular database hygiene tasks such as data cleaning, deduplication, and verification to maintain high-quality data.

  • Implement and manage data backups and ensure data security and compliance with privacy regulations.

  • Implement and support best practices for data management, ensuring that data is utilised efficiently across the organisation.

  • Other duties as required 

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, or a related field.

  • At least 2-3 years of experience in database management, data analysis, or a related role, preferably in the arts, nonprofit, or entertainment sectors.

  • Excellent SQL skills and experience; SSR and SSIS applications

  • Experience in database analysis and data extraction techniques

  • Excellent attention to detail

  • High expertise in analytics

  • Strong Excel skills, with experience in data analysis and reporting.

  • Familiarity with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) is a plus.

  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal).
