About Museum of Brisbane
Museum of Brisbane (MoB) is dedicated to celebrating the stories, places, and people of Brisbane. As the City’s leading social history and art museum, MoB offers a vibrant, inclusive and dynamic program of exhibitions and programs year-round for locals and visitors to the City.
Key Responsibilities
- Research and develop innovative exhibitions and projects which meet the artistic, cultural and audience engagement objectives of MoB and relevant to the Museum’s vision encompassing visual arts and social history.
- Curate audience-focused and high-quality exhibitions and projects, regularly in consultation and collaboration with communities, embedded with principles of life-long learning and participation to support engagement by children, families and new audiences.
- Work with Collections team to shape, interpret and present artworks and objects from the Collection through exhibitions and other activities.
- Use experience and expertise to support other MoB teams in their projects to increase access and engagement about the evolving life of Brisbane, its histories and contemporary cultures.
- Maintain an active, professional profile, and ensure the Museum’s research and curatorial activities and outcomes are widely promoted at all levels.
- Build relationships and engage with artists and creatives, communities and academics/historians, to tell sensitive, equitable, distinct and dynamic stories that relate to Brisbane.
- Manage effective communication with internal and external stakeholders to ensure project objectives, plans and outcomes are effectively communicated and understood.
- Take all safety measures when performing duties to ensure the safety of yourself and others, and comply with Museum of Brisbane’s Workplace Health and Safety policies, procedures, and Government legislation.
- Other duties from time to time as required.
Selection Criteria
The successful applicant will demonstrate all or most of the following:
- Demonstrated experience of more than 5 years working in an art gallery, museum, or creative environment, with experiences in the curation and organisation of exhibitions and projects with distinct expertise in art and interest in social history.
- Tertiary qualifications in Visual Art, Art History, Cultural and Museum Studies or Education is desirable.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills with confidence in public speaking and ability to liaise with artists, professionals and a wide range of community representatives.
- Excellent organisational skills to support the development of multiple, competing projects on time and within allocated budget.
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team and to creatively solve problems and work with a high degree of flexibility.
- Demonstrated connection to, and knowledge of Brisbane’s visual arts and social history.
